Purchase our 2021-22 NBA Fantasy Targets & Projections

This NBA season, I want to narrow down what’s most important for drafting a winning fantasy basketball team: figuring out who the smartest players to target are, and finding the most accurate stat projections around, which have proven to produce fantasy hoops champions for major high-stakes competitions. So that’s the focus this season: accurate targets & projections.

Unfortunately, due to this year’s more minimalist approach, you won’t be getting some of the items many of you have gotten used to over the years, such as our RotoEvil Draft Tool and the Cornerstone Combos article. I apologize if you’re not happy about this change, but manually updating the Draft Tool resulted in too many sleepless nights for me.

I also believe in a “less is more” approach to life, and that includes fantasy basketball. If you spend too much time staring at category values/z-scores, or player rankings in general, it’s easy to get fixated on player A being more valuable than player B, simply because that’s what the numbers are telling you (even if your gut is telling you otherwise).

While I’m providing player rankings for The Athletic this year, I believe in drafting with your gut over rankings, and that’s why my ‘Select 80’ list is far more valuable than any set of rankings. Both the Targets and Stat Projections are RotoEvil exclusives, and you can buy them below.

I firmly believe these two items will be a winning combination this season, even if it’s not the same “RotoEvil Draft Guide” that you’ve gotten used to. I am also including some extra tools as part of the discounted price, such as our Weekly Schedule Grid and our Team Depth Charts file, color-coded to show where the bulk of each team’s fantasy value is coming from.

Please reach out if you have any comments or questions about this year’s products.

Fantasy Basketball Players to Target
My ‘Select 80’ list debuted last season, and it turned out to be a great idea. By pointing out solid targets, across all stages of the draft, readers were able to take a more simplistic approach to their decision making, while nailing a higher percentage of their picks.

Who were some of the players featured on last season’s Select 80 list???

Among the Superstars: Nikola Jokic, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid
Among the Lead Guards: Dejounte Murray, Malcolm Brogdon, RJ Barrett
Among the Active Forwards: Mikal Bridges, PJ Washington, Miles Bridges
Among the Reliable Centers: Domantas Sabonis, Jonas Valanciunas, Chris Boucher
Among the 3-Point Shooters: Tobias Harris, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Jordan Clarkson
Among the Late Round Sleepers: Tyrese Haliburton, Jakob Poeltl, Kyle Anderson

Can you imagine if you had drafted half of those players?
Well, I drafted eight of them on my team that finished in 1st place out of 252 teams in the NFBKC’s Online Championship, where I was able to finish with over 90% of maximum Roto points! So clearly, it pays off to have smart targets.

There’s no such thing as a “perfect draft,” but my ‘Select 80’ list should help you hit as many home run picks as possible, giving you a huge advantage over your competition.

As for what this file looks like, over 300 players are ranked, according to their latest average draft position (ADP) from NFBKC leagues. For each target player, I note the role they fill, their suggested draft range, and comments explaining. Here is a screenshot of what this looks like:

Note: the ‘Select 80’ file will be updated several times throughout preseason.
For example, if a player starts receiving too much hype during preseason, and their ADP moves ahead of their suggested draft range, that player will be replaced by a new target player, to ensure that you’re maximizing value with every pick!

Wishing everyone good health and best of luck this fantasy basketball season!
